Here at Pegana Press I cut all of the paper by hand for our books. A time-consuming process but essential when using laid papers with watermarks and deckle edges. I am using Hahnemuhle Ingres paper for the new Lord Dunsany book, as I have with all the other Lost Tales Editions. The paper has a lot of texture to it, which makes for challenging print work, but the paper feels really good and has a tactile quality that is quite unique when handling. I cut the paper so the Rooster watermark is in the bottom corner of the page in our Lost Tales books. I also leave a deckle edge to the bottom of the page.
Hahnemuhle has been making paper since 1584 and was used by Salvadore Dali for his artworks and Pablo Picasso for his Lithographs, so there is a lot of history in the books you may hold from Pegana Press! It seems fitting to use paper with this kind of lineage for the work of Lord Dunsany; his unbroken lineage and reverence for tradition being manifest in his writings.
Printing work continues on the new book; As with all of the Lost Tales Dunsany Editions, the new book will contain several unpublished, rare stories from the Dunsany Castle Archives.
You may learn more about our series of Lost Tales Editions by Lord Dunsany here at our webpage.

Time with a Legend
I recently had the privilege to do a recording session with the legendary jazz pianist Joe Baque for the 21st Century Songbook release due shortly by composer Daven Tillinghast . Baque was in his 90's when we recorded this at his home on a Chickering piano he's had since he was a kid. You can listen to a free track here.

Current Doings
Recently put the final touches to the Nova Cafe debut album now available on ITunes. Rick Fisher at the helm mastering the album at Resonant Mastering in Seattle, home to many Pearl Jam projects. What a pleasure working in such a great facility.
Began tracking the new album from Daven Tillinghast of Open Road Productions, cutting acoustic and electric guitars for a song inspired by the Navajo Peyote Ceremony.
Now in the process of mastering The Vengeance of Thor, Lost Tales audiobook for Pegana Press.

Nearing completion of the Cafe Nova debut album. We're in the midst of mixing a tune with a reggae feel to it, great fun. Once done, we'll be taking the album to be mastered at RFI Mastering in Seattle with Rick Fisher. You gotta check this place out, world class facility here in the Northwest! Here's a taste of the last tune just finished, Centrifuge, a bang out rocker.

Continuing work on an audiobook for Pegana Press adding some great piano tracks from Daven Tillinghast. Nearing completion mixing the new release by Nova Cafe. Really enjoy the songs and tones these guys have come up with. Paul Cogley, guitarist, songwriter, multi-instrument man engineered the tracks and sent some great sounding WAV files to work with. Here's a bit of the completed songs so far for listening.

Been mixing a project recorded up in North Seattle by Nova Cafe, lots of layered guitars and very well crafted. Some of the songs have 40 plus tracks and it's been great fun mixing. It will be quite a great piece of work when finished. On the other side of the spectrum continuing work out in the country with a local singer/songwriter with just straight acoustic guitar and voice. Love the contrast between the two projects.

Finished work on a promotional soundscape for Pegana Press Books with narration and music beds recreating Paris of 1919. Had a great time recording and mixing a solo acoustic project for John in Shelton, love recording in the country. New mastering plugins from T/Racks working very smoothly.

Had fun mastering Daven Tillinghast's song The Light of Life with some Neve, SSL and Cambridge software plug-ins. Circadian sleep patterns lends the theme to this musical night journey. Keeping the dynamics intact during mastering was challenging but the effort was worth it. Thanks to John Dibernardo for the assist.
Also beginning work on an Audiobook for Pegana Press which promises to be a great combination of reading and sound production layering. We hope to complete the project in time for a late summer release.

Been working with a great singer/songwriter transplant from Arizona. Charles has a terrific voice and some moving songs. We've tracked guitar and vocals for two songs and plan on adding violin and cello soon.
Just finished the mix for "The Balkan Song" by local artist Daven Tillinghast from Open Road Productions and now we're on to mastering the song. Very excited about how it is turning out.
Added a new kick drum mic recently from CAD and can't wait to use it on someone or something. Using some new SSL compression plugins and a Waves multiband compressor/EQ.

Recently finished mixing a song from a live set by local blues/rock band "Hurts Like Hell" Played for a large outdoor party in Chehalis and a good time had by all. I worked with a mystery feed from a Mackie board and no soundcheck before the show so post production mixing was the key. Check out their website for more news about these guys, they rock hard!

Been working on a great song with Open Road Productions instrumentalist/composer Daven Tillinghast. Full of drama and odd twists, this song features a Balkanesque theme and instrumentation. The final tracks have been laid and I'm in the process of mixing it now.We hope to have it completed in a few weeks and will post it here. A couple of snaps of Daven in contemplative action playing Baritone guitar and Finger Cymbals using a sweet Cascade Microphone (great locally made mics.)
